Laurence can advise and represent on all aspects of patent and design protection. This includes fining applications for and enforcement of patents and registered design rights, as well as advising on third-party rights and freedom to operate. He handles subject matter across all fields of engineering, and specialises in medical devices and electronics/electrical engineering.
Laurence represents companies of all sizes and scale, from early stage start-ups to multi-nationals, tailoring advice to the client's commercial requirements. He has particular experience in representing clients before the European and UK Patent Offices, and regularly coordinates and manages patent and registered design filings around the world. He has obtained favourable outcomes in a large number of patent prosecution hearings before the European Patent Office, helping to secure as broad protection for his clients' inventions as possible.
In contentious disputes, Laurence has both successfully defended clients' granted patent rights against third-party attacks, and revoked third-party's granted rights. This includes opposition proceedings at the European Patent Office and complex revocation proceedings before the UK Intellectual Property Office.
