Entered profession in 1983
Prior to joining UDL, Simon worked in corporate practice. He was resident in the United States for nearly three years where he qualified as a United States patent agent and gained considerable experience in dealing with the United States Patent and Trademark Office. Simon has particular expertise in patents relating to medical devices, industrial filtration technologies, polymer processing and shape memory alloys. Simon has considerable experience of advising companies in the healthcare sector. One of Simon's particular interests lies in exploiting the differences between filing and prosecution practices between European and other countries to optimise the scope of protection for inventions and he has developed a significant practice representing clients in hearings at the European Patent Office, in examination and opposition proceedings. Simon is also a registered trademark agent. Simon has been a partner since 1993 and was the firm's managing partner from 2004 to 2007.
