Martin’s areas of specialism are chemistry, materials, engineering and design. Martin has considerable experience in drafting patent applications within the chemical and engineering fields, focusing on hard metal materials (diamond and carbides), coatings, polymers, composites, fabrics and gas-phase systems. He’s focused on green and sustainable technologies, specifically battery technology.
His practice centres on providing commercially-focused, patent-related advice including portfolio management, strategy, enforcement and defending patent rights in the UK and Europe. He has considerable experience of drafting patent applications within the chemical and engineering fields, focusing on hard metal materials, coatings, polymers, composites, mining, rock processing and oil and gas technologies. He has successfully represented his clients for many years, prosecuting patent applications internationally with specific focus on European applications.
Martin’s client base varies from SMEs to multinationals as well as universities and R&D groups. In addition to securing commercially valuable patent protection, Martin guides his clients through contentious matters of patent infringement and validity, European oppositions and appeals.
Martin entered the profession in 1999. He joined UDL in 2007 and became a partner in 2014.
